When one party files for divorce, a case number will be assigned based on where it is filed, and the type of case. The format will be 2 letters followed by 8 numbers (Ex: HF12345678). This number will appear in the top right corner of documents filed with the court; it will be used to reference your case going forward so write it down, memorize it, and store it on your phone for quick and easy access as needed!

If you do not have your case number, you can obtain it by calling or going to the following courthouses in person:

  • George E. McDonald Courthouse, Alameda:(510) 263-4304
  • Hayward Hall of Justice, Hayward: (510) 690-2702
  • Rene C. Davidson Courthouse, Oakland:(510) 891-6005

Your case number is needed to access your case information online using DomainWeb For instructions on how to access DomainWeb click here.

DomainWeb is Alameda County's "resource for case filing information". You are somewhat limited in what case information you can find here, however, the Case Details are broken down into the following sections:

Checking and reviewing the information in DomainWeb is essential as the court will often fail to notify you in a timely manner of any updates or changes to your case. Use DomainWeb to:

  • Be aware that another party has filed something related to your case
  • Confirm documents you submitted have been properly filed
  • Know about an upcoming hearing
  • Check which judge and department will be handling your case
  • Catch clerical errors
  • Access your case history

While DomainWeb will not show external requirements such as mediation or court appointed custody counseling, it is up to you to know your hearing dates and to stay informed about any filings. It is a great advantage to see that something was filed and obtain a copy as far in advance as possible, instead of being served papers at the last minute unexpectedly, and with limited time to respond.
